Understanding varicose veins

Sclerotheraphy is a form of vein treatment that applies a special chemical substance called sclerosant through a very thin needle directly into the vein. This method "seals the bad vein", and may also help to remove swelling, fatigue, and improve leg cramps. The medical literature shows that up to 50% – 80% of injected veins may be eliminated after one or two expert sessions of sclerotherapy. Less than 10% of patients do not respond to the injections and are offered alternative solutions.

In general, spider veins respond to treatment in three to six weeks. Veins that do respond to the procedure usually will not reappear. However, new veins can later surface at the same place and may require additional injections.

What is Endovenous laser treatment of varicose veins? Many people do not understand the exact meaning of this procedure.

Endovenous means vascular treatment that occurs inside the affected vessel.

Laser – a device is used that produces a nearly parallel, nearly monochromatic, and coherent beam of light by exciting atoms to a higher energy level and causing them to radiate their energy in phase.

Vein treatment – a procedure aimed at removing varicose veins.

Phlebectomy – a minimally invasive surgical procedure without the use of a scalpel where varicose veins are removed through small skin punctures with special instruments. Punctures are sealed with special medical tape, not sutured, which gives better cosmetic effect.
